Grossmont Middle College High School Attendance Policy
How to report an absence:
Please notify Grossmont Middle College office of your student’s absence within 48 hours.

You can also send a note with your student when they return.

An absence is EXCUSED only if they meet one of the following criteria:
Personal illness*
- Medical, dental, optometric, or chiropractic appointments
- Attendance at funeral services for an immediate family member
- Jury duty or any other court order (such as a subpoena) requiring a personal appearance
- Exclusion for failure to present evidence of immunization
- Observance of a religious holiday
- Military Family reunification
Any absence, for a reason other than those listed above is UNEXCUSED.
Saturday School will be assigned when attendance reaches a combined total of 5 Excused and/or Unexcused Tardies, Absences, and Truancies.
Saturday School, 8:30a-12:30pm
Example: 3 tardies + 2 absences = Saturday School
Example: 4 tardies + 1 absence = Saturday School
Example: 5 tardies = Saturday School
It does not matter if they are excused or unexcused. Punctuality and attendance are important life skills.
Truancies: Truancy is defined by California Education Code 48260 as a student who is absent from school without a valid excuse three full days in one school year or tardy or absent for more than a 30-minute period during the school day without a valid excuse on three occasions in one school year, or any combination thereof, shall be classified as a truant.
